ABout our Research
The Mara River Research Program is an international, interdisciplinary program focused on the ecology and conservation of the Mara River basin, East Africa. Our goals are to 1) increase knowledge and understanding of the flow ecology and aquatic biodiversity of the river ecosystem, 2) disentangle linkages between land and water dynamics in this system, and 3) promote data and knowledge sharing to contribute to the conservation of this critical ecosystem.
The Mara River
The Mara River flows from the Mau Forest in Kenya, through the Maasai Mara National Reserve and Serengeti National Park, and into Lake Victoria in Tanzania. Along the way the river sustains sustains human communities and provides the only permanent river in the Serengeti-Mara Ecosystem.
